Cathy Shugg - Fine Artist
Cathy Shugg is a professional artist with wide experience as an art maker and art teacher/tutor. Inspired by her travels in Australia and overseas, she creates original works on paper and canvas for purchase and by commission.
Cathy has received multiple awards for her contemporary acrylic, watercolour, mixed media paintings and drawings. Earlier this year she was Artist in Residence at Chateau d’Orquevaux in Champagne, France. In 2017, she has exhibited in solo and joint shows in Balmain, Brisbane and Woolloomooloo, as well as group shows around Sydney and in regional NSW.
Cathy’s artworks are held in private and corporate collections in Australia and abroad. She is an Exhibiting Member of Ku-ring-gai Art Society and tutors for Painting Holidays art trips in Asia.
Cathy works “en plein air” whenever possible - creating paintings and drawings on location in direct response to the environment. These “In the Landscape” pieces inspire subsequent development of larger scale, many-layered works in her St Ives studio. Her work is notable for its versatility, encompassing a wide range of techniques and subjects.
“Plein air artmaking is where it all starts for me. I love to paint and draw my way into a deeper understanding of where I actually am in time and place. Exploring those ideas with different processes and media is an important part of my work.”
The next twelve months will see Cathy painting in Antarctica, tutoring on painting trips in Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan and returning to France for another Artist in Residence appointment.
